The Huon Valley is listed alongside Brisbane and surrounds, Fiji, French Polynesia, Kangaroo Island, The Kimberley, Northern Rivers of NSW, the South Island of New Zealand, Sydney, the Torres Strait and the Yarra Valley.

In the feature, the Huon Valley is described as “slowed-down living in charming hideaways.”

There is also some exciting culinary news, with details of a unique new venture from a high-profile chef coming in 2024.

Mayor Sally Doyle said being included on such a high-profile list is recognition of the Valley’s special place in the world.

“I’m so thrilled our beautiful region is being described as one of the best places to visit in 2024,” Mayor Doyle said.

“The world is catching on to what our community already knows – the Huon Valley has it all, with spectacular mountain, rural and coastal scenery, boutique produce and businesses and unique tourism experiences that you can’t find anywhere else.”

Supporting one another

Council’s Manager of Economic Development Michelle Gledhill praised the resilience of the region’s tourism industry after the 2019 bushfires.

“As an industry, tourism has had its ups and downs… but the industry has bound together and supported one another,” she said.

“The Huon Valley is a microcosm of everything Tasmania has to offer. We’ve got very authentic rural experiences, as well as the beauty of natural landscapes and world heritage wilderness right on our doorstep.”

“We’ve got our food, wine and beverage sector as well.”
