The Tasmanian Government maintain some great tools to help Tasmanians manage your land and its natural values:
Land Information System Tasmania (LIST) map
The Land Information System Tasmania (LIST) offers an interactive mapping tool called LISTmap. LISTmap is an online map viewer that allows you to view maps of Tasmania, using a wide range of authoritative land-based information layers. The kind of information layers you can access include:
- what kind of vegetation you have on your property and surrounds and if it is threatened,
- whether there is a potential for erosion or inundation on your property or nearby,
- easements and crown land licences,
- the Tasmanian Interim Planning Scheme Zones and Overlays, and
- many more.
The Council’s Natural Resource Management Unit has developed a handy guide on how to use the LISTmap.
This tool provides landholders with information on Tasmania’s threatened species, where they are found and how you, as a landholder, can help protect these plants and animals in the section titled ‘what to avoid’. The site allows you to search by species or by area.
For those landholders with a special interest in Tasmania’s natural values it is worthwhile registering to use the Natural Values Atlas. This tool allows you to search records of over 20,000 species and provides detailed information on those records as well as maps of the locations of where the species were sighted. The best place to start on this site is to do a Natural Values Report for your property and then run species searches on anything interesting that comes up in that report.
Remember to contact the Council’s Natural Resource Management Unit for help if you need advice on how to protect and improve the natural values on your land.
